› Shirodhara - The ayurvedic forehead oil-flow

In shirodhara, the ayurvedic warm oil treatment,

warm herbal oil on a sesame oil base, milk, milk decoction (dughta dhara) or buttermilk (takra dhara) - depending on the indication - is poured over the forehead. This steadily flowing stream of oil is guided over the forehead in firmly defined paths and rhythms for 20 to 30 minutes and brings about a deep relaxation, calming and invigoration of the mind and spirit. A pleasant sense of well-being is achieved, which leads to a feeling of inner peace.


Ayurveda shirodhara

With shirodhara,

deep relaxation, harmony and detachedness activate the body’s own "inner pharmacy" and thus release a stream of healing substances, which are said to be very beneficial, especially for neurovegetative disorders and states of exhaustion.

Shirodhara is not a wellness treatment

and we do not offer it as a stand-alone therapy. You should only undergo an ayurvedic oil pouring treatment if you have sufficient time and with the appropriate preparation and prior consultation. After shirodhara, you should definitely take enough time, keep away from negative influences and avoid mental strain.

› Performing shirodhara

In traditional shirodhara,

you lie on your back on the treatment table. Your head is tilted slightly backwards and the neck is slightly stretched.

The trickle of oil pours from the dhara vessel, along a cotton wick and onto the guest's forehead. Two therapists are always required in order to perform shirodhara; one to control the flow of oil, and the second to regulate the temperature of the oil and to constantly refill the dhara vessel with fresh oil.

› Effects of shirodhara

Shirodhara has

an extremely calming effect on the neurovegetative nervous system and is used for chronic headaches, pain syndromes, sleep disorders, stress and burnout syndromes, depression, as well as numerous other psychosomatic illnesses and even skin disease.
